David Wilson joined St. David’s HealthCare as Vice President and CFO in October 1997. Under his leadership, St. David’s revenues have grown from less that $518M in 1997 to $3.5B in 2009.
Wilson has worked in hospital financial operations for 33 years with HCA, and HCA affiliates. Prior to coming to St. David’s, Wilson served as the chief financial officer for HCA Medical Center of Plano for 18 years. While there, he oversaw the facilities growth from a breakeven operation to one of HCA’s most successful business units.
Wilson earned his bachelors degree from Texas Tech University in 1975, and later earned his CPA. In 1995, he received the President’s Award as HCA’s Outstanding CFO. Wilson and his wife, Marcie, have two sons.
Senior Vice President
St. David's HealthCareMark Clayton joined St. David's HealthCare and the HCA Central and West Texas Division in 2007 as the Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Development. In that role, he is responsible for all strategic planning, marketing, public relations and business development functions for seven acute care hospitals in two cities.
Prior to joining St. David’s HealthCare, Clayton served as Regional Vice President and Chief Development Officer for Baptist Health System in San Antonio—a five-hospital system with more than 5,000 employees and 1,200 physicians. Before that, Clayton was Chief Executive Officer of North Central Baptist Hospital, also in San Antonio.
Clayton holds a master’s in health administration from the Medical College of Virginia and a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University. He is board certified in healthcare management, and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Clayton serves on numerous civic and corporate boards including, the Advisory Board of the Baylor Business School program in health care administration, as board member of the Austin Community College Foundation, and as board member of the Austin-based Integrated Care Collaborative.
Chief Medical Officer

Steve Berkowitz, M.D., is the chief medical officer for St. David’s HealthCare.
Berkowitz has 25 years of experience in health care management and consulting. As Chief Medical Officer for St. David’s HealthCare, a six-hospital system in Austin, Texas, he is responsible for clinical outcomes improvement, physician development, strategic planning and medical management. Berkowitz is also the Chairman of the Board of Capital Area Providers, a 5.01-(a) Texas medical foundation consisting of more than 800 physicians. Berkowitz is board certified in internal medicine and is a prominent national speaker and author in health care management, performance improvement and strategy.
Prior to this position, Dr. Berkowitz was National Practice Leader for Physician Services with the HayGroup. He has been a senior executive for Harris Methodist Health System, serving as the chief medical officer of the integrated delivery system.
