Nursing at St. David's

The empowerment to be your best.

Best Nurse Practices

St. David’s HealthCare is a dynamic, results-oriented environment that offers nurses a diverse array of tools, resources and professional support designed to help you excel in your field of practice.

A Pathway to Excellence: All six St. David’s HealthCare acute care hospitals have received Pathway to Excellence designation by The American Nurses Credentialing Center (AACN). We are among only a handful (less than 1%) in Texas to receive this prestigious recognition. The Pathway to Excellence designation is confirmation – by our own nurses – of St. David’s HealthCare’s commitment to providing the ideal nursing environment – one that allows you to practice safe, quality patient care and improve outcomes.

Shared Governance: We believe in involving our nursing staff in decisions pertaining to nursing practice and patient care. Their experience and input is crucial to our continual pursuit of excellence. Shared Governance helps improve accountability, professionalism and employee satisfaction, while enhancing quality of care and patient outcomes.

Personalized Preceptor Program: You’ll work one-on-one with a trained preceptor to smooth your integration onto the St. David’s HealthCare team.

Ongoing Clinical Support: As you progress, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Unit Clinical Educators will be by your side at each step, serving as preceptors, mentors and advocates.

Professional Development & Training: The St. David’s Institute for Learning offers a wide range of programs and opportunities for nurses at all stages of their careers, such as SNAP, our Specialty Nurse Accelerated Program. Continuing Nursing Education (CE) courses are offered free to St. David’s HealthCare employees, with many conveniently held onsite at our facilities.
