Provides overall coordination in the delivery of services and discharge planning for specified patient population. Performs concurrent analysis of patient records for purposes of utilization review and quality assurance. Promotes a cooperative and supportive relationship as liaison with patient, family, facility staff, physicians and funding representatives. Provides guidance and supervision to Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN), Nursing Technicians, Nursing Assistants and Unit Secretaries. He/she acts as patient and advocate with the Hospital environment. Assumes Charge Nurse responsibilities and accepts assignments on other units when necessary.Possess the comprehensive nursing skills to perform triage assessment that shall include rapid systematic collection of data related to the patient's chief complaint.
- Completes and thorough triage assessment is performed and documented using the Nursing process at the time of presentation, based on accepted Emergency Nursing standards, on patient condition and Hospital policy.
- Differentiates severity of patient problems and prioritizes care, designating an appropriate acuity level.
- Facilitates the flow of patients through the emergency care system ensuring timely evaluation according to the health care needs of the patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the care of all aspects of medical and traumatic emergencies.
- Considers principles of Emergency Nursing assessment while formulating appropriate nursing interventions for disease/trauma entity.

Systematic collection and review of patient activities related to appropriateness of level of care, timely and appropriate length of stay and services rendered and identification of patient needs related to care after discharge in a way that improves quality and affordability of health care. The RN Case Manager must interacts with physicians, staff, patient/family and outside agencies and be knowledgeable of community resources and alternate care facilities. Services are provided from birth to geriatric populations.

The Nursing Department Manager, R.N., maintains 24-hour accountability for the direction, supervision, coordination and evaluation of activities of the professional practice of a nursing staff of a specialized nursing unit such as Medical/Surgical, ICU, CCU, Surgery or Women's Services. Ensures patient needs are met in accordance with instructions of physicians and the Hospital policy and procedures. Directs and coordinates the organizational improvement activities of the nursing unit. Oversees the development, review and revision of policies, procedures and practices guidelines. Is accountable for the financial operation of the department.
