St. David's HealthCare is one of the largest health systems in Texas and Austin's third-

seven hospitals, four urgent care centers, four ambulatory surgery centers, and two
freestanding emergency departments, with a third set to open in Bastrop this summer.

Volunteering

St. David’s Medical Center - Summer Teen Volunteer Program

The St. David’s Summer Teen Volunteer Program gives young adults a unique opportunity to gain experience in a healthcare setting while gaining personal satisfaction by helping others. Teens must be 15 by June 1, 2012. This is a hospital policy and we cannot make exceptions to this rule. The Summer Program is a 5 week program that will run from Monday, June 25th to Thursday, July 26th (40 hours total). Teens must be available the entire 5 weeks of the program.

We will begin accepting applications on Monday, March 26, 2012. The application deadline is Friday, April 20, 2012.

Steps:
  1. Apply: Applicants should complete the online application form. Once your application has been received, our office will contact you via email with the additional paperwork needed to complete your application.
  2. Submit Additional Paperwork: Once your initial application has been received, our office will email you the additional paperwork needed to complete your application. Please ensure we have your correct email address on file. Additional paperwork will include: 
              - Teen/Parent agreement form
              - Recommendation forms (2)
              - Essay
              - Background release
              - Immunization records
  1. Interview: Interviews will be scheduled once all application materials have been received. The application deadline is Friday, April 20. The summer program will limited to 30 teens.
  2. Orientation (by invitation only): Orientation will be held on Monday, June 18th from 9am – 2pm. This is a mandatory orientation and you must be able to attend. Details on orientation will be provided once accepted into the program.  
  3. Assignments: Teen volunteers are required to volunteer two shifts per week each lasting four hours. Shifts will be Monday-Thursday either 9am-1pm or 1pm-4pm. Available shifts for summer teens will include: Volunteer Discharge Desk, Gift Shop, Aquatic Center, and Nursing Units.
