Todd E. Steward, FACHE

St. David’s South Austin Medical Center

Todd E. Steward was named Chief Executive Officer of St. David’s South Austin Medical Center in 2010. Mr. Steward has more than 16 years of experience in hospital administration, healthcare consulting and physician practice management.

Before he joined St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, Mr. Steward served as the Chief Executive Officer of North Suburban Medical Center in Denver, Colorado for six years. Prior to that position, Mr. Steward was Chief Operating Officer of Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington, Louisiana. Previously, he served in various leadership roles at PhyCor, Inc., which provided administrative management services to physician networks and medical groups, ultimately serving as the interim Executive Director of a 72-physician multispecialty group practice.

Mr. Steward received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Abilene Christian University and his master’s degree in healthcare administration from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. He is board certified in healthcare management as an American College of Healthcare Executives Fellow (FACHE).

Brett Matens - Chief Operating Officer

Since 2003, Brett Matens has served as the Chief Operating Officer at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center. Prior to 2003, he served at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana, as Vice President for Operations.

Mr. Matens has been with HCA 15 years and is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Tulane University.

Mr. Matens currently volunteers with Austin New Church, South Austin Cares, Austin Care Communities, Mobile Loaves & Fishes, and the South Austin Civic Club. He served as an ACHE Regional Advisory Council member and a Board Member for Austin’s Heart Association.

Sally A. Gilliam, RN BSN MAHS - Chief Nursing Officer

Sally Gillam has served as the Chief Nursing Officer at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center for more than 20 years. She serves on the board of the Texas Organization of Nurse Executives and was appointed to the Nursing Legislative Action Coalition.

Ms. Gillam authored a position paper on strategic planning and organizational management adopted by the National Advisory board; received an HCA leadership award as well as a gubernatorial appointment to the Texas Department of Insurance Board; and has been the keynote speaker locally and nationally.

Ms. Gillam graduated from Mary Hardin-Baylor and completed her master’s degree in Human Services Administration at St. Edward’s University.

Dan Huffine - Chief Financial Officer

Daniel Huffine was appointed Chief Financial Officer of St. David’s South Austin Medical Center in September 2012. He has more than 15 years of experience in the financial sector of the healthcare industry, and previously served as the division controller for the Central and West Texas Division of HCA, which includes St. David’s HealthCare in Austin.

Previously, Mr. Huffine was the controller of Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, and also served as a Vice President/Assistant Administrator at Community Health Systems’ Brandywine Hospital and trauma center in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. He also served as the Chief Financial Officer of Community Health Systems’ The King’s Daughters Hospital in Greenville, Mississippi, and as a financial analyst at Community Health Systems’ Corporate Office in Nashville, Tennessee.

Mr. Huffine earned his bachelor’s degree from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, with a major in business and accounting, and his MBA with an emphasis on healthcare administration from Regis University in Denver. He became a certified public accountant in 1993.

Dr. Albert T Gros has served as the Chief Medical Officer at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center since 2008. Prior to that, he practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Austin for 27 years, serving at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center as Chief of the Department of OB/GYN for 12 of those years. He also served on the Board of Trustees and as Board Chair.

Dr. Gros is interested in improving the quality and safety of medical care by establishing a culture of communication and collaboration within the healthcare team.

Dr. Gros completed his medical training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He served in the US Navy as a Battalion Surgeon, 3rd Marine Division, and Aviation Medical Officer, NAS Kingsville. Dr. Gros has been active in organized medicine, and is past president of the Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, past Section Chair, District XI of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and was the Chair of the Council on Legislation, Texas Medical Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the American College of Physician Executives.

Nikki Sikes - Associate Administrator

In her role as Associate Administrator, Nikki Sikes oversees targeted hospital initiatives and departmental leadership.

Prior to joining St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, Ms. Sikes served as a director in Alvarez and Marsal’s Healthcare Group (A&M), a global restructuring firm. As a director, she often assumed contract or interim management positions in operations, clinical operations and finance at various institutions, including Southwest Atlanta Hospital (Atlanta), St. Vincent’s Catholic Health System (New York), Grady Health System (Atlanta), USC Keck School of Medicine (Los Angeles), and MetroHealth System (Cleveland).

In her previous professional roles, Sikes also worked with OpenQ, Inc.; Ariba, Inc.,; and the Boston Consulting Group.

Ms. Sikes earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering, with a concentration in chemical engineering, from Vanderbilt University, and received her master’s in health science with a concentration on health finance and management from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore.
