St. David's HealthCare to Feature Neonatal Services On Virtual Education Resource Center
AUSTIN, Texas—During the month of August, St. David’s HealthCare will feature videos focused on neonatal services offered within its facilities through its online education channel, StDavidsHealthCast.com. St. David’s HealthCare provides comprehensive neonatal services throughout Central Texas, improving care for women experiencing high-risk pregnancies.

St. David’s HealthCare is the largest provider of neonatal services in Central Texas. Its neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) feature the latest technology and highly skilled professional staff, including neonatologists specializing in the treatment of newborns who are premature or have other medical needs, neonatal nurses, neonatal dietitians and specialists such as surgeons, cardiologists and pharmacists. St. David’s Medical Center and St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas feature Level III NICUs, which have life-saving treatments and technologies to care for newborns of any severity.

StDavidsHealthCast.com will highlight a variety of topics related to neonatal care, including the benefits of breastfeeding, neonatal surgery, occupational and physical therapy of neonatal patients, St. David’s HealthCare’s neonatal transport team and St. David’s Medical Center’s “Baby Matters” nurse navigator service—designed to help families of high-risk infants prepare for their baby’s stay in the NICU.

St. David’s HealthCare’s Neonatal Transport Team provides 24-hour emergency transportation to neonatal patients, as well as specialized care while en route. It is designed to transport babies who need the skill and technology of a Level III NICU but are born at a facility that does not offer these services. Its team of neonatologists, specially trained and certified registered nurses, and respiratory therapists travels throughout a radius of more than 150 miles to bring newborns to our Level III NICUs, providing air transport for critically ill babies. The areas served include New Braunfels, Temple, Llano and Bryan/College Station.

St. David’s Medical Center also features the Austin First Steps clinic, a follow-up clinic for high-risk infants discharged from a NICU. Staff members at the clinic work with OBGYNs and pediatricians to collectively ease the anxiety many new parents of premature infants experience. Audelo Rivera, M.D., medical director of newborn services, opens the channels of communication in partnering with community physicians to ensure the best possible outcome for the babies.

St. David’s HealthCare includes St. David’s Medical Center; St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, including St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas and North Austin Maternal Fetal Medicine; St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center; St. David’s South Austin Medical Center; St. David’s Georgetown Hospital and Heart Hospital of Austin.
