Austin, Texas — Two St. David’s HealthCare facilities—St. David’s Medical Center and St. David’s South Austin Medical Center—were recently recognized nationally among Newsweek’s Best Maternity Hospitals for 2026. St. David’s Medical Center and St. David’s South Austin Medical Center were the only two hospitals in Austin to make the list. St. David’s Medical Center earned this recognition for the fourth consecutive year, while St. David’s South Austin Medical Center was honored for the first time.
“At St. David’s HealthCare, we are dedicated to providing exceptional, patient-centered care, partnering with families to support every mother and baby entrusted to us,” David Huffstutler, chief executive officer of St. David’s HealthCare, said. “This national recognition is a reflection of the expertise and commitment of our care teams who show up every day to ensure families receive the highest level of support and safety throughout every stage of their journey.”
Newsweek partnered with statistics portal and industry ranking provider Statista for the fifth time to identify hospitals that provide the highest-quality maternity care from pregnancy through birth and postpartum. There were 461 hospitals in the country that made the list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2026, including 41 in Texas.
The ranking is based on three data sources: Results from a patient experience survey; hospital quality metrics relevant to maternity care; and a nationwide online survey of healthcare professionals and hospital managers with knowledge about maternity processes.
