AUSTIN, Texas — Heart Hospital of Austin, a campus of St. David’s Medical Center, has been renamed St. David’s Heart Hospital of Austin, better reflecting the hospital’s long-standing place within St. David’s HealthCare. The name change will have no impact on hospital operations, including patient care, services or staffing.
“While our name is changing, our commitment remains the same,” Brett Matens, chief executive officer of St. David’s Heart Hospital of Austin, said. “Patients will continue to receive the same exceptional, nationally recognized cardiovascular care from the same trusted team. This update reflects who we have been for more than 15 years as part of the St. David’s HealthCare family, as well as where we are going.”
Heart Hospital of Austin opened in 1998 as a stand-alone, 58-bed cardiology hospital with 20 physicians. The hospital officially became part of St. David’s HealthCare in November 2010. It has been recognized nationally among the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals currently powered by Premier, Inc. for 15 years, including six years prior to the acquisition.
St. David’s Heart Hospital of Austin has become one of the most respected and highest-performing cardiovascular hospitals in the nation. Building on a legacy of innovation and clinical leadership, the hospital has advanced care through initiatives such as establishing the Advanced Heart Failure program; the development of a multidisciplinary Heart Valve Clinic; the designation of an Aortic Center of Excellence; and expanding the Executive Wellness program, offering comprehensive preventative care services. The hospital is further strengthened by its alignment with internationally recognized physician groups, including Austin Heart, Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia and Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons, whose expertise continues to elevate the level of cardiovascular care available to patients across the region.
As the hospital moves forward under its new name, it remains focused on delivering the highest standard of cardiovascular care to Central Texas and beyond. Backed by decades of clinical expertise and a trusted team of physicians and care providers, the hospital will continue setting the standard for cardiovascular patient outcomes, innovation and experience in the region.
