Austin, Texas — St. David’s Surgical Hospital, a campus of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with its rigorous performance standards. St. David’s Surgical Hospital is the only hospital in Austin to achieve this advanced certification, reinforcing its position as a leader in orthopedic excellence. The Gold Seal is a nationally recognized symbol of quality that reflects a healthcare organization’s commitment to safe, exceptional patient care.
“This recognition is a direct reflection of the expertise, coordination and commitment of our entire orthopedic team,” Howard Garner, chief operating officer of St. David’s Surgical Hospital, said. “As the only hospital in Austin to earn this distinction, it underscores our focus on delivering consistent, evidence-based care at every step of the patient journey. Our goal is to help patients move better, recover faster and return to their lives with confidence.”
The certification, offered in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, evaluates the full continuum of care, from the pre-surgical orthopedic consultation through the intraoperative experience, hospitalization or ambulatory surgical center admission, rehabilitation and follow-up care. St. David’s Surgical Hospital underwent a rigorous onsite review during which a Joint Commission reviewer assessed compliance in key areas, including program management and clinical care. The review process also included onsite observations and interviews with staff and leadership.
By earning this advanced certification, St. David’s Surgical Hospital further distinguishes itself as a destination for leading-edge orthopedic care in Central Texas. The recognition reflects the hospital’s continued investment in clinical expertise, patient-centered processes and measurable outcomes that prioritize safety, precision and compassionate care.
