Midwifery care
St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center offers midwifery care, a holistic approach to women's healthcare that emphasizes personalized, supportive and comprehensive care. Our midwives view childbirth as a natural process and prioritize building a trusting relationship with you. They offer individualized attention and often provide continuous support during labor and birth.
We have birthing suites specifically designed to support low intervention, unmedicated births. Our rooms feature:
- Hydrotherapy tubs
- Large showers to accommodate labor support in the shower
- Labor lounge/family area to promote mobility during labor
- Intermittent monitoring to promote low-intervention birth
A low intervention birth is an option for all women who meet the low-risk pregnancy qualification.
High-risk pregnancy care
Our maternal-fetal medicine team provides women with high-risk pregnancies not only expert care, but also reassurance and support every step of the way. We utilize advanced diagnostics and treatments to manage a wide range of high-risk conditions.
At St. David’s Medical Center and St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas, you have access to nurse navigators who will provide you with support, education, and coordination throughout your pregnancy and postpartum care.
Advanced neonatal care
Although our desire is for everyone to have a healthy baby, we know babies occasionally need special medical care.
Within our network, you have access to various levels of NICUs, ranging from Level I for routine newborn care to Level IV for the most critically ill or premature infants who require advanced, specialized treatment. This tiered approach ensures that each baby receives the appropriate level of care based on their unique needs, close to home and with the support of highly trained neonatologists, nurses and pediatric specialists.
Newborn care
At St. David's HealthCare, we're here to care for both you and your baby, even after birth, with resources and guidance for a healthy and confident start the motherhood. After your baby is born, our postpartum care team will be there to assist you as you learn to feed and care for your new baby before going home.
One of the most meaningful things you can do for your newborn is holding them skin-to-skin. We believe skin-to-skin care is a key element in helping families bond with their baby after delivery. It also plays an important role in increasing the success rate of breastfeeding. If you choose to breastfeed, our full-time International Board Certified Lactation Consultants can help you learn successful techniques.
We also encourage rooming-in to give you more time to get to know your baby's feeding cues and to help you feel more comfortable in caring for your newborn.
Maternity tours and classes

To help with this, we offer parent education classes that provide answers to your questions about childbirth, newborn care, breastfeeding, cesarean sections and other topics.
